A mayoral candidate for the Kanifing Muncipal Council, Assan Martin, has joined an independent candidate Papa Njie, the two candidates have confirmed on Thursday.
“We are glad to announce that mayoral candidate Lawyer Assan Martin has signed an MOU with his brother and co-aspirant Papa Njie earlier this afternoon,” Njie said on his official Facebook page.
Both candidates are contesting for leadership of Gambia’s biggest region, Kanifing Municipality.
Already the councilor elections which happened about a month ago has given much influence with KMC to political parties one of which, United Democratic Party, winning 12 councilor seats out of 19.
The winning candidate who becomes the mayor will also have the right to nominate 4 councilors which is equivalent to the number of councilor seats ex ruling party for Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction Party has won.
