IEC DISQUALIFIES ONLY FEMALE MAYORAL CANDIDATE FOR KMC

The only female candidate who submitted her papers for nomination in the KMC moyoral race, Fatima Sarr, has been disqualified.

All the ten candidates who have nominated for the mayoral race of Kanifing Municipality have been accepted except Fatima Sarr, a senior official from the election house has confirmed to Kerr Fatou.

All the accepted candidates have their representatives at the IEC house along Kairaba Avenue on Thursday morning to reconcile campaign itineraries.

The Independent Electoral Commission has wrapped up nominations of candidates for mayor on Tuesday and eleven candidates have been tentatively nominated.

The qualified candidates includes Talib Bensouda United Democratic Party, Ousman Jatta Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction, Dawooda Njie Gambia Democratic Congress and Adama Bah Peoples’ Democratic Party for Independence and Socialism.

On Wednesday before the public scrutiny of candidates ended, the GDC candidate has challenged the qualification of UDP and APRC candidates but their queries were found to be invalid.

All the other major independent candidates like Bakary Badgie, George Gomez, Assan Martin and Papa Njie, among others, have been effectively nominated.

The candidates’ representatives have met at the IEC on Thursday morning along Kairaba Avenue to reconcile the campaign itineraries of the 10 candidates.

The IEC is expected to issue a press statement before day break.
