Court frees 4 GDC supporters on assault charges

The magistrate court in Basse has acquitted and discharged four supporters of Gambia Democratic Congress who were arrested and charge to court over an allege assault.

The four that were acquitted and discharged were charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, Common assault and incitement of violence.

They were Alagie Sowe, the lawmaker representing the Jimara constituency, Faye Manneh, Muhammed Sowe, Sara Jawo and Foday Baldeh.

About three months ago, the national assembly member for GDC, Alhagie Sowe, and the newly elected councilor Ebrima Manneh and 14 others were arrested and charge to court over an allege assault.

Meanwhile, about twelve other GDC supporters who are also facing similar charges are expected to appear in court tomorrow July 24th.

They are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor.

The arrest of the GDC supporters was denounced by the party’s leadership as politically motivated.
