The Turkish Corporation Coordination Agency (TIKA) has donated 8 tons of food items to Gambia’s Supreme Islamic Council for onward distribution to needy Muslims in the country.

The donated food items include 200 bags of rice, 20 bags of sugar, 20 cartons of dates and cooking oil, among others.

This is the second donation made by the development assistance agency in two days. On Thursday, TIKA donated another 8 tons of food to country’s First Lady’s office, Fatou Bah Barrow Foundation.

Imam Sheriff Malick Badjan, the first vice president of the Supreme Islamic Council, praised TIKA’s donation as “a noble gesture”, adding that it will be very beneficial to poor Gambians.

The Turkish Ambassador Ismail Sefa Yuceer said donation demonstrates the existence of long cordial relations between Turkey and the Gambia.

The donation is expected to be distributed to 200 needy families across the country. Present at the donation ceremony was TIKA’s country representative Mehmet Akif Eyigun.
