Police freed Killa Ace on bail

A popular Gambian artist who has been arrested on Saturday for his alleged involvement in a protest in Serrakunda has been released on a police bail on Monday.

The rapper’s colleagues and activists have said he was denied visitor since the time of his arrest. On Monday morning, Killa’s lawyer Patrick Gomez has spent at least half an hour trying to get access to him.

The artist was then denied bail. The lawyer and several activists then held a press conference at the police station condemning the denial of his bail application.

Killa was reportedly charged for willful damage but it is not clear for what activity he was charged.

His friends said his arrest is in connection to the July protest in Serrakunda which was against the death of Ousman Darboe, a Sierra Leonean national. Darboe, an asthmatic patient, died in police custody 3 days after his release.

Killa reports to police headquarters in Banjul on Tuesday morning.
