A Turkish energy company operating in Gambia, Karpowership, has donated food items to three orphanages in the country on Friday. The company donated 90 bags of rice, 15 bags of onion, 15 gallons of 40 liter oil and loaves of bread.

The beneficiary institutions are Al-Ihsan Foundation, Medina Salam Orphanage and Wulinkama Jawharr Orphanage.

The presentation to the orphanages was witnessed by Emre Durmusoglu, Africa Regional Director for Karpowership, and the Turkish Ambassador to Gambia Ismail Sefa Yuceer.

The donation was part of the power production company’s initiative to support the poor, needy and underprivileged in the society, said Yankuba Mamburay, country director for Karpowership.

“With our operations in Gambia, the company will continue to engage in social responsibility projects that will help with the growth of the people as well as providing educational tools,” said Mamburay.

“This donation is a welcomed development. Feeding is one of our biggest challenges in this orphanage,” said Muhammed Darboe, a representative from Al-Ihsan Foundation.

The Turkish ambassador thanked the company for their support to the Gambian population especially at a “time when Ramadan is approaching”.

Karpowership has a power purchase agreement with National Water and Electricity Company, boosting the Gambian energy’s company capacity with 36 megawatts of energy.

In the Ramadan last year, Karpowership has made similar donations of food items to various sections of the Gambian society.

The company is also currently refurbishing the pediatric unit of country’s main hospital, Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.
