Jeshwang prison break: Police arrests 4 more escapees

Gambian police have arrested four more prisoners who have escaped from Jeswang prison last month, the police spokesperson David Kujabi has confirmed to Kerr Fatou.

Twenty-three prisoners have escaped from Jeswang prison last month, after which four others were arrested.

Now the total of arrests made since the jail break is seven, leaving the total of those at large at sixteen.

“They were arrested at different times and locations by the police,” David Kujabi, police spokesperson told Kerr Fatou.

Briefing the media on Saturday, Public Affairs Director of the GPF Superintendent David Kujabi said the unit will not relent until all the escaped prisoners are apprehended.

According to Prison officials the incident happened during a downpour.

Some prison officers who were on duty that night have also been arrested though it is not clear if they will be prosecuted.
