Samboujang Njie, the Chief Electoral Officer at the Independent Electoral Commission [IEC] has encouraged members of the media and Civil Society Organisations [CSO] to apply for accreditation at the commission to monitor the forthcoming general voter registration process.
But, he advised them not to interfere with the work of its electoral staff during the process; but report to the commission for redress any irregularities they observed; saying to them ‘you are not a police. You are a monitor.’
Njie said this at the second IEC’s stakeholder forum at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre on Thursday in Senegambia.
The IEC recently announced that the general voter registration would hold from 29th May to 11th July 2021. During the period, the process will commence at 8:00am and end at 5:00pm daily.
