A Gambian student in United States has used basketball to reach and sensitise young people on various issues affecting their lives.

Between 28 to 30 of December last year, Malick Sarr, a master’s degree student at the university of Illinois-Springfield organized a 3-day ceremony which brought young people together to discuss issues affecting their lives.

The event was meant to inspire and help change the mindset of young people in The Gambia on social issues like Child marriage, FGM, LGBTQ rights and issues of irregular migration.

The initiative reached two hundred people.

The founder and head coach of Hope Basketball Clinic, the organization that led the initiative, is Mohamed Njie.
