The National Assembly Members adopted the nomination of Retired Lieutenant Colonel Abdoulie Conteh as a member of the Armed Forces Council.

His nomination has been unanimously adopted by the members earlier today in accordance with section 189, subsection 1 (g) of the 1997 Constitution.

The motion on Conteh’s appointment tabled by the Minister of Defence was later referred to the Assembly’s public appointments committee for further scrutiny to report back to plenary in accordance with standing orders 117 (2).

The subsequent nomination of Retired Lieutenant Colonel Abdoulie Conteh is a replacement to the nomination of Retired Colonel Ndow Njie whose nomination was earlier rejected by the plenary.

Abdoulie Conteh, fondly referred to as ‘Lie Conteh’ previously served in the Gambia Armed Forces and then as Mayor of the Kanifing Municipality.
