President Adama Barrow will next week travel to Beijing to attend the 2018 China-Africa Heads of State and Government Summit (FOCAC 2018), the spokesperson of the president Amie Bojang told journalists on Wednesday.

The president is expected to have bilateral meetings with Chinese government officials and potential investors during the visit.

Alongside the Summit, spouses of the Heads of State will be attending a conference on HIV/AIDS.

Gambia and China has had friendly ties since independence but the country’s former ruler Yahya Jammeh after his coup cut ties with Beijing and went  for Taiwan.

Few years later, Jammeh cut ties with Taiwan. When the Barrow administration came, they maintained the ties with country’s traditional partners, China.

China has extended huge financial support to Gambia in nearly two years of Barrow administration, amounting to over 2 billion dalasis.

Meanwhile, following his nation-wide Meet the People tour, Bojang also said the President has tasked the Ministry of Agriculture to review existing projects to identify the implementation gap of ongoing projects under the ministry.
